Vergleichbar dem Wikiprojekt BID in der deutschsprachigen Wikipedia (vgl. Netbib zum Start des dazugehörigen Portals) gibt es nun seit letzter Woche auch ein WikiProject Librarians der englischsprachigen Wikipedia-Autoren, denn…

[we] librarians flatter ourselves that we know a thing or two about organizing information. It’s time we stepped up and contributed to Wikipedia: not just to its content but to its structures and technologies. This project page is intended to provide a rallying point for these activities.

Weiter unten werden dann, neben u.a. einer “Introduction to Wikipedia Culture for Librarians”, einige Ziele des Projekts aufgezählt:

• Coordinate maintenance of library-related content
• Develop and discuss proposals for improvements to Wikipedia based on library experience (…)
• Some librarians may wish to assist at the Wikipedia Reference Desk
• One place to start: ISBN linking. What should a typical ISBN page look like? (…)

Bemerkenswert finde ich, daÃ? die “structures and technologies” des Wikipedia-Projekts so offensiv angesprochen werden. Hier soll offenbar nicht zuletzt dabei geholfen werden, Wikipedia-Informationen in nützlicher Form zu liefern und auffindbar zu machen. Demgegenüber wird die “maintenance of library-related content” nur als ein Interesse unter anderen genannt.
Beim deutschen Wikiprojekt BID fällt die Gewichtung deutlich anders aus:

Ziel dieses etwa April 2003 gestarteten WikiProjekts ist es die Themen Bibliothek, Bibliothekswissenschaft, Dokumentationswissenschaft und angrenzende Bereiche (…) darzustellen. (Im Gegensatz zum deutschen Bibliothekswesen ist die deutschsprachige Wikipedia hier der englischsprachigen z.Z. voraus :- )
