The Houston Public Library will adopt that model when it reopens the Central Library, scheduled for June. The renovations include a cafe, gift shop and art gallery.
“You can take your coffee around the library, and nobody’s going to tell you to be quiet,” said Houston Public Library Director Rhea Brown Lawson. “Libraries have to grow up and stop being that place that just houses books” and stop expecting people to come in, because they have more options.”
