Die National Library for Wales wird ab April nächsten Jahres ihre Tore am Samstag für die Ã?ffentlichkeit nicht mehr öffnen können. Davon sind nicht nur die Lesesäle, sondern auch die anderen Einrichtungen im Gebäude wie das Restaurant oder der Shop betroffen. Grund dafür: £250,000 müssen im nächsten Jahr von der Bibliothek gespart werden. Dazu komme noch das stete Sinken des Jahresbudgets. Deswegen zieht die Bibliothek jetzt erstmal die ReiÃ?leine, ein Schritt, den sie zutiefst bedauert:

Mr Wigley, the former Plaid Cymru leader, said: “The library has been put in an impossible situation and the people of Wales are the ones that are going to suffer, losing the services of one of its most important institutions on the only day of the week on which many can visit.”

Die Geldgeber, Welsh Assembly Government, sehen das mit dem Budget ein klein wenig anders:

A Welsh Assembly Government spokesman said: “The National Library have been given an increase in the draft budget for next year. “We acknowledge that financially this is a very difficult and challenging time for public bodies. “However we are disappointed that the library has chosen this option which will particularly impact on its users.”
